The Mayan calendar is a composition of calendars and annual happenings such as weather reports and so on. The world that we live in has evolved to great extents and has emerged out of various civilizations. These civilizations have been the key for many inventions that are useful till now. The Mayan calendar was used by the Mayan civilizations belonging to pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. The most important thing that is concerned about this particular calendar is that it depicts the end of the world by 21st December 2012. Many calculations have been made which includes numerical as well as psychological facts which prove the prediction not to be absolute. Also that the Mayan scholars deny the fact that world will come to end by the termination of calendar.

Concept of time:
Each and every calendar has a unique way of calculation of number that may occur in a year. The most familiar ones to us are the solar and the lunar calendar. The most important feature of the Mayan calendar is the 260 days calendar. This particular calendar was most customary among the Mesoamerican societies. Mayan calendar is the oldest among the calendar that exists till date. This historic feature makes many to astonish this system of calendars. Some still follow it especially people in the regions of Oaxaca. The Maya version is generally read and excelled by the scholars who are called as tzolkin. They are responsible to add on suitable additions so as to synchronize these calendars with that of solar calendar. This sort synchronized calendar is known as calendar round. Another form of calendar was also used which is used to track and record the longer period of time. This was called as long counts. According to the Maya researchers and scholars the starting point of this calendar may be 11th august 3113 BC. The long counts were also supported by means of lunar calendar based on the occurrences of lunar phases. Venus cycle was another important type among the Mayan calendars. It was based on the helical risings of the planet Venus. The Maya kings had skilled astronomers who calculated the time to perfection which led to the review exact dates. This was also very significant with that of divine beliefs and to predict the future.
Does it mean the end of world?
Many hoax and confusions has been created due to the much talked end of Mayan calendar. Some say that it would necessarily mean to the end of the world by means of various catastrophic events. Some believe that it marks to the beginning of new era. Many research scholars and rationalists have a different ideas concerned about the calendar. They highlight the important note on what does it necessarily mean. It is just a predicted calendar which was written in age old time and calculated till 21st august 2012. So it does not necessarily mean to the end of the world. So the hoax created around may be proved to be false over the years to come. Or it may be proved to be true.
